Now that her grieving mother is unable to provide any true support, Candy relies on the help of two of her new friends from school, an old friend of the family, and tries to find God in the midst of it all.
Real estate tycoon Leslie Chancellor must make a choice between life or death and this time she doesn’t have her husband to help her. When Robert Chancellor is tragically killed, Leslie spirals into a deep darkness she can’t escape. Now that Candy is chasing her dreams of being a super star, Leslie must rely on an old family friend, a kind colleague, and new friend she didn’t plan on meeting.

Interview with the Author
- What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
I live in Southern Delaware, but I’ve spent some time in the south including Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Texas. My hometown is “biscuits and gravy, sweet tea, and F-150s” already, but seeing those traits across states was a pleasant surprise.
- How do you select the names of your characters?
Fourteen years ago, I was eating a candy cane and decided to name each character after the letters in the word “candy.” Candy, Anna, Nate, Debbie, and York. They were the original names. Candy stuck and so did Anna. Nina sounded better and I didn’t like York at all. Chris seemed so natural and I don’t really remember how Leslie’s name was chosen. I do know that I went back years later to make sure everyone’s name matched the year they were born and that their surnames reflected perceived socioeconomic status. That was actually harder than I thought because now the names had to make sense together. Candy Chancellor goes together as a rich girl with an legacy name. But Candy Collins would have been weird. Scott Carrington took forever. Chris’ surname took forever too, but eventually I picked one up from a sign in someone’s yard!
- What is your favorite childhood book?
People often miss the fact that one of the earliest Christian fiction authors was a woman named Martha Finley. She wrote short stories that became novels in the 1860s. Her main character, Elsie Dinsmore was a sweet girl at age eight who was being raised by her grandparents. In the early 2000s, the series was modified some with contemporary English and I think that Elsie’s impossible choice was my favorite as a child.
- Who is the author you most admire in your genre?
That is a tie between Robin Jones Gunn and Karen Kingsbury. Robin Jones Gunn writes stories for teen girls to enjoy and Butterflies does that. Karen Kingsbury writes stories that are not just romance and Butterflies is more faith and family than romance, so I really love them both.
- What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching movies with my family.
