Chapter 1: Candy
“Kelly, play Dad’s playlist.” Daddy popped open his work computer and activated our smart kitchen to turn on his country music as we worked at the kitchen table. I worked on my hand-lettered art for the new nursery under the warm glow of the hanging lights and absorbed the feeling of holiday excitement that begins with harvest, Thanksgiving, and eventually Christmas.
“So, sweetie, you know how we’re going to design a new housing model?”
I looked up from my picture and nodded.
“Let’s see if you have the Chancellor flair for design. Your mom and I can’t decide on how the model home should look on the inside. Our interior decorator is out, so I suggested we let our little legacy take a look.”
I met his gaze as he handed me the laptop and his blue eyes mirrored mine. I knew that the Chancellors always included a dynamic element in our homes. No matter what, the house had to include one thing that was out of the ordinary.
“Should every room have butterflies?” I suggested as I tilted the laptop towards me. The inspo had come from the butterfly on my jean jacket.
“I like it. Butterflies in the fall.” Daddy gave me our mutual warm look.
