About the Author
Christa Joy Spaeth is the founder of Christa Joy Ministries. It was in 2022 when Minnesota-based author Christa received a compelling message from God. In a prayer cabin called “Whisper,” He prompted her to write a seven-week devotional.
Since then, Christa’s eyes, heart, and ears were opened to more whispers, so that she may start fulfilling her new purpose of helping the hurting and share the love of Christ.
This blessed wife, mother of two, and businesswoman is passionate about living up to God’s plans for her every day. So much so that in 2022, she stepped down from her decades-long career as a Registered Dietitian at a large food manufacturing company to pursue the promptings of the Lord and encourage others in Christ.
Today, Christa owns and operates Christa Joy Ministries where she publishes her own books, writes daily encouragements and God whispers on her social media accounts. In addition, she does guest blog posts for various social media accounts.
More from Christa
One morning while I was away at a prayer cabin, the Lord laid on my heart that I was to write a book. My first thought was, “Oh, my! Lord, I have never written anything other than work-related documents. Where do I begin? What do you want me to write?”
I am so honored and humbled that the Lord placed amazing book experts in my path over the next year to launch this unique devotional book in a mere 55 weeks. This feat is spectacular as I didn’t know anything about the publishing business.
Two components of Powerful Whispers that my readers love are the suggested worship and the activations. After each devotional was written I searched for the perfect worship song. You will find several suggested indie artist songs and a few popular worship songs too. Daily you will find an activation which engages your entire body to be able to get the daily truth deeper in your soul.
The Bible verse I read before I starting to write Powerful Whispers is found in James 1:5, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” God continually showed His faithfulness to me by providing wisdom to share with my readers.
My heart’s desire is that readers will soon learn through this daily devotional that God chose them, He loves them, and He wants to share His powerful whispers daily for their life.
Interview with Christa
- If you could invite one person to dinner, who would it be and what would you cook?
Although she isn’t living anymore, I would have loved to have had dinner Corrie ten Boom. Her book The Hiding Place is one of my favorite books. I have read it numerous times, seen the movie, and watched the play. Corrie was a prisoner in a concentration camp during World War II because she helped Jews hide. I admire Corrie for her great courage and faith in God during such unimaginable times.
What would I cook? I love this question because I am a foodie and a dietitian! The first course would be roasted carrot soup served with homemade sourdough bread. For the main course, I would make Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken with a delicious spice rub and a little zest of lime. The side dish would be roasted cauliflower with a fresh tahini dipping sauce. For dessert, we would enjoy a triple berry trifle.
- How did writing this book grow you spiritually?
One way I grew spiritually during the writing process was including suggested worship music for each day’s devotion. Although I would listen to worship music often before writing this book, I didn’t include worship as a daily component of my devotional time.
I’ve heard providing suggested worship in a devotional is rare, yet I felt it was important to include. In my research on worship, I discovered how important worship is to the Lord. The word praise is mentioned 259 times in the Bible, and the word worship is mentioned 188 times! Wow! Those facts impressed upon me to find appropriate music for each day and encourage the listeners during their devotional time.
I looked for worship music after writing each devotional. I would sit in my office and weep with joy, awe, and wonder as I listened to each worship song. Through this worship time, my love for the Lord grew and my appreciation for including daily worship time grew.
- What do you like to do when you are not writing?
My family loves to hike. Minnesota is full of lakes, many of which have hiking trails around them. We have some favorite local spots. We also love to find new spots whenever possible.
My husband works for the airline so another favorite thing we do is travel! I’ve been fortunate enough to visit every state at least once. While traveling we especially love to hike in the area. Hiking is free and a great way to see the beauty of the area off the beaten path.
- Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.
I was a ballerina from elementary school all the way through high school. I even went back for a few classes in college. I loved the disciple of ballet, the beauty of the dances, and the classical music. I have many great memories of my time in the little dance studio. I really wish I was that flexible right now!
- Favorite quote?
As a mom of two boys and an author of an upcoming prayer journal for mom’s, I particularly love the following quote. It really encapsulates all what I feel about motherhood in one sentence. I am so thankful the Lord weaves the moments all together.
“Motherhood is a million little moments that God weaves together with grace, redemption, laughter, tears and, most of all, love.” Lysa TerKeurst, mom of five, author, President of Proverbs 31 Ministries
