With his dad’s help, Ethan begins a desperate search. He finally finds Mei Lin, but she refuses to run without the evidence that could expose the conspiracy—and ensure they’re never hunted again.

Reunited after years apart, Ethan and Mei Lin must rediscover the love they thought they’d lost—while staying one step ahead of enemies who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden.

Excerpt from the Book

Her passport—stamped and valid—her national ID, and her cell phone, which had a crack in the screen, the result of her dropping it from her moped in 2020. The envelope had also included some cash—four hundred yuan in mixed bills, worn soft. Had it been the warden’s money? Remembering her look of compassion, Mei Lin thought so.

It had paid for a ticket out of town. She might be able to squeeze a few meals out of what was left, but it wouldn’t last long. It wouldn’t get her out of China and to the life in the West she’d once planned.

The final things she’d found in the envelope were her engagement ring and wedding band, both barely worn.

The rings were too large now, sliding on her bony finger, and she worried they’d fall off if she didn’t pay attention. She should put them somewhere safe.

But safe didn’t exist for Mei Lin.

The sparkling diamond blurred in her vision. She’d believed everything Ethan had said to her. She’d been so sure of his love. But he’d never come for her, never even written.

She knew exactly why she’d been trapped in that prison—and exactly who had arranged it.

About the Author

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Coventry Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. Working in marketing, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while homeschooling her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving that most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet.
