Book Excerpt
It is also tested in our lives. What we see in Genesis, we experience today. God’s work in our world, as it was from the beginning of creation, is good.
COMPANION THOUGHT
What is difficult but good in your life?
Genesis 2: God Gives Life
And the Lord God . . . breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.
Genesis 2:7
God made us in his image. Though housed in a body made from the dust of the ground, the very breath of God gives us life. He created us as spiritual beings with the capacity for relationship with Him, a characteristic that distinguishes us from the lower animals. It is the breath of God within us that causes us to yearn for relationship with Him and for the wholeness that He embodies—community, perfection, and immortality.
Despite the evil around us, we know we are made for something better. When we long for a world where all is right, just, and good, we are longing for God and His kingdom.
