Speculative Trades by Brett Heaston (Part Two)
I picture the annihilation of Carax’s biosphere. It is a good show.
“And you come to me for help?” I bait him.
“Yes.”
I shake my head. “I don’t offer help.”
He smiles. “Sorry. You offer to trade.”
Annoying. “No. You came to me.”
“Yes. We offer to trade credits for, um, support,” he stammers.
I frown. “You offer credits for a cruiser with weaponry.”
Dark Sun Rising by Travis W. Inman
The ambassador smiled. “What you don’t understand is, you won’t need any of this old … stuff. What’s on the other side is so much better! This solar system was good for a time, but it was always set to expire.” He reached out toward the short man. “You must come with me to safety.”
An older woman raised her hand. “Sir? What if I don’t want to follow you? What if I’m happy and comfortable here?”
The ambassador exhaled and his shoulders fell. “Emperor Olam is not going to force you to follow him to the new world. You have a choice. I promise you. But the brilliant mind who created this world has a better one on the other side.” He held up his hands. “Mark my words. He will allow this system to expire.”
The short, balding man lifted a fist. “You’re a liar! We know Olam, but we don’t know you.” He picked up a stone and closed his fist around it.
